BetaList Topic Startups API and MCP — Startups Filed Under a Topic
Send a BetaList topic, either a slug like generative-ai, a category/topic path or a topic link, and get the startups filed under it: name, tagline, logo image and BetaList link for each.
- You send
- a BetaList topic slug (such as generative-ai) or topic link, and how many startups you want
- You get back
- name, tagline, logo image and BetaList link for the startups filed under that topic
- Coverage
- BetaList records with a public page.
- Price
- 1 point per returned record — $1 per 1,000
- Billed per record actually returned, capped by max_items. A request that returns nothing costs nothing.
Ways to get this data
Three approaches teams use today, and where each one runs into trouble.
| Approach | What it takes | Cost | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| BetaList directly | Open the page on BetaList and scroll through the list | Free, and slow | Fine for one record, useless across a list, and the layout differs on every platform |
| Building a scraper | Write it, host it, and repair it when BetaList changes its pages | Engineering time | A maintenance commitment for something that isn't your product |
| NeuralVerge | One request, the same shape as every other source in the catalog | $1 per 1,000, misses not billed | Returns what BetaList publishes at request time. Other platforms are separate sources with the same request format |

}How to run it
The same lookup works from the app, the API, or as a tool an agent can call mid-task.
Results come back in the same envelope as every other source: a session id, a readable summary, the structured result and the points charged. max_items caps how many records are returned and billed.

Where this field shows up in an actual workflow.
List the startups filed under one topic to map who is active in it.
Build outreach or research lists for a category such as generative AI.
Re-run a topic on a schedule and compare ids to spot new entries.
Skim recent launches in a sector you invest in before opening individual records.
Coverage, freshness and limits
What this source covers, how fresh it is, and where it stops.
BetaList records with a public page.
Read at request time, so the answer reflects the platform as it stands when you ask.
This source returns information BetaList shows publicly. Every response carries the session id you can trace.
- —The topic has to exist on BetaList. The docs give a slug, a category/topic path or a topic URL as accepted forms.
- —Records carry name, tagline, logo and link only. Use BetaList startup for makers, description and launch date.
- —total_found is null in the sample, so the full size of the topic is not reported.
